About

BritVil Community Food Pantry was created in 1991, largely due to the dream and hard work of two Britton Christian Church members, Ernestine Thomas and Winifred Owen. They wanted to provide food to families experiencing economic difficulties primarily in the Britton and Village neighborhoods of Oklahoma City. BritVil serves clients in three zip codes, 73114, 73120 and 73131. BritVil Community Food Pantry was a reality, opening its doors October 1, 1991. It was incorporated on April 27, 1992.

Today, BritVil has 90 volunteers that staff the 4,800 square foot pantry each week. BritVil serves clients Monday through Friday 9:00am-11:00am. Clients are allowed to obtain food items once per month unless circumstances dictate otherwise. Volunteers work each day interviewing applicants, completing food orders, working in the warehouse and procuring food items from local grocery stores and restaurants.

BritVil is a 501 {c} {3} IRS non-profit organization. BritVil has an agency relationship with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, which allows food to be procured from the Food Bank. The food is delivered every Wednesday from the Regional Food Bank. BritVil pays the Food Bank a handling charge for the food obtained. Certain government commodities are free.
